Amanda Week 4 AHA

My AHA moment came from researching Reid Hoffman. I had the misconception that people who find Facebook or Napster, etc. are somewhat of a one-hit wonder. I now think that their "one-hit" helps them to get further into the market and give them opportunities that they wouldn't have had. Just like Reid is on the board for a couple of companies and is an angel investor in 5+ companies. It's nice to see that maybe their success wasn't a fluke and that they have the smarts to stay in the business, if they choose to after they make their millions :)

I like your one-hit wonder analogy. Prior to this week, I would have said that techies seem to stay in their fields, continue on in their pursuits of finding/making the quickest new way to do something. Now I will be the first to disagree. Like Reid, the techie I chose (Philip Rosedale of Second Life) is now venturing out of his comfort zone of marketing and virtual commerce to more of an entrepenurial role. When you read the bios of Reid and Rosedale, it is somewhat a relief that they are more down to earth than expected.

You're definitely on to something with your one-hit wonder idea. This week I found that the Twitter guy is like Reid, he's moved on to another start-up and has invested in other social networking start-ups. These guys seem to have a definite passion and vision for the future!

It does seem that these big names are more than one-hit wonders. I chose to see what the creator of Bebo is up to now. Michael Birch, like Reid Hoffman, seems to be on the investing side of new, innovative social networking websites. It is great that these people with a proven successful online business are backing and helping the new tech savvy generation change the face of technology...again.
